Why does Ziruma use teak wood?

Teak wood is a naturally sturdy material that has built-in defenses against bacteria and fungi. It also has a high resistance to water decay making it perfect for kitchenware. Unlike other woods used for kitchenware, teak has unique elements called tectoquinones. They give the wood superior antibacterial and antifungal defenses.

At Ziruma, we only use 25-year teak wood. Why? Only Mature Teak has a high silica and rubber content, which are natural water repellents that prevent decay. 100% Heartwood is used for all our creations.
